Job summary

BluRoc is seeking a Field Environmental Health and Safety professional for Danville, VA. The role emphasizes safety excellence, field operations, and travel to project sites as needed.

The candidate will enforce EHS policies, perform risk assessments, and assist in developing site-specific plans while maintaining compliance with OSHA standards and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field required, five+ years in construction safety preferred.
  • OSHA 500/501 Training or equivalent certification desirable.
  • Experience with OSHA standards, DOT, and MUTCD is required/strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as field environmental health and safety representative and point of contact for projects within regional territory.
  • Enforce all company environmental, health and safety policies consistently.
  • Conduct routine worksite safety inspections and intervene in unsafe activities or conditions.
  • Perform hazard identification and risk assessments; recommend controls.
  • Assist in development of site-specific Environmental Health and Safety Plans.
  • Develop and implement EHS-related standards and procedures; monitor effectiveness.
  • Participate in incident investigations and audits (TapRoot) and regulatory inspections.
  • Maintain regulatory inspection programs and support weekly safety meetings.

Position Description

This position requires a strong safety background, attention to detail, combined with a proven track record of safety excellence. It requires a high level of flexibility and commitment to field operations. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in dynamic environments and traveling wherever project needs dictate.

Responsibilities
  • Primary role will be to serve as a field environmental health and safety representative and point of contact for projects within a regional territory.
  • Fairly and consistently enforce all company environmental, health and safety policies.
  • Conduct routine worksite safety inspections and intervene in all unsafe activities or conditions.
  • Perform hazard identification and risk assessments and recommend appropriate engineering and/or administrative/procedural controls.
  • Participate in project planning activities and assist in the development of site-specific Environmental Health and Safety Plans.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of environmental, health and safety-related standards and work procedures, and monitor their application and effectiveness.
  • Participate in incident investigation and analysis (TapRoot).
  • Participate in regulatory audits and environmental/safety management system audits.
  • Maintain and facilitate regulatory inspection programs.
  • Administer new hire orientation, project orientation, tailgate safety training, and other task-specific environmental health and safety training as required (i.e., confined space entry, respiratory protection, wetland best management practices).
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings and call-ins.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of employee committee objectives.
  • Report to the Manager of Environmental, Health and Safety Compliance.
  • Most of the weekly activity will be spent directly on project sites.
  • Occasional opportunities to travel for coverage outside of the assigned region is likely.
Qualifications
  • Candidates must meet at least one of the following criteria: Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related technical field and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a construction safety environment; or Completion of the OSHA 500/501 Training Course; or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; or Safety Management Specialist (SMS) with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
  • Background in ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, or ANSI Z10-2019 is a plus.
  • Certification as a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor is a plus.
  • Must possess knowledge of OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry, U.S. DOT, and MUTCD Standards.
  • Must possess highly effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to operate independently with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
  • The successful candidate will require an acceptable driving record.
