What you will be doing

The HSE Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental programs throughout the facility. The position works closely with employees, supervisors, and management to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and Hydro’s commitment to maintaining a safe and environmentally responsible workplace. The coordinator promotes a proactive safety culture through training, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities
Safety & Health
  • Support and administer facility health and safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA/MIOSHA regulations and company standards.
  • Conduct routine workplace inspections, audits, and hazard assessments.
  • Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow‑up activities.
  • Track and report safety metrics, including near misses, first aid cases, recordable incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee training programs.
  • Maintain safety records, documentation, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Support contractor safety management and visitor safety processes.
  • Assist in administering lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, machine guarding, PPE, and other safety programs.
  • Promote employee engagement through safety committees, observations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote and support the safety delegate program.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Support environmental inspections, audits, and permit compliance activities.
  • Maintain environmental records, reports, and documentation.
  • Assist with waste management, recycling programs, spill prevention, and environmental training.
  • Participate in environmental incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
Training & Employee Development
  • Coordinate new hire safety orientation and onboarding activities.
  • Schedule, track, and maintain employee safety training records.
  • Support annual refresher training and regulatory compliance training requirements.
  • Assist in developing training materials, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Participate in risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and safety improvement projects.
  • Support 5S, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist departments in identifying opportunities to reduce safety risks and improve environmental performance.
  • Help drive a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational excellence.
What we are looking for
  • Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of safety, environmental, manufacturing, or industrial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
  • Understanding of environmental compliance requirements preferred.
  • Experience conducting inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with training coordination and record‑keeping systems preferred.

Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Environmental compliance training or certifications
