Job Description

IRVING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

JOB TITLE: Teacher

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

FUNDING SOURCE: Local

DUTY DAYS: 187 days

PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary

DATE REVISED: February 2025

PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas to help them fulfill their potential for growth and develop competencies for success in a global society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate for the subject/level assigned
  • Completion of Texas Reading Academy (required for Elementary)
  • ESL Supplemental Certification (preferred)
Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Technology proficiency and integration skills
Minimum Experience

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship

Major Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement curriculum plans with evidence of preparation
  • Present subject matter according to TEA, board policies, and regulations
  • Use data to plan and implement instructional strategies tailored to student needs
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify curricula per IEPs
  • Plan and supervise assignments for aides or volunteers
  • Utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning
Student Growth and Development
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods
  • Monitor achievement through assessments
  • Participate in extracurricular activities as assigned
  • Model positive behavior aligned with district mission
Classroom Management
  • Create a conducive learning environment
  • Manage student behavior per policies and IEPs
  • Ensure safety and proper use of materials
Communication
  • Maintain open communication with students and parents
  • Foster professional relationships with staff and community
  • Communicate information clearly and accurately

Working Conditions

Mental and physical demands include effective communication, emotional control, and physical activity (e.g., sitting, standing, lifting).
