Job summary

Norwalk Community School District is seeking an Assistant Coach to support the head coach and athletic director in running practices and contests. You will instruct players on techniques, safety and rules while organizing practice plans and ensuring participant safety.

You will also help supervise travel, promote the athletics program, and model ethical conduct. Strong communication with parents and adherence to district policies are essential.

Qualifications

  • Coaching authorization or license is required.
  • Ability to supervise athletes and manage team activities.
  • Understanding of safety rules and district policies.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs athletes regarding techniques, rules and safety practices of the sport.
  • Develops and organizes practice program.
  • Schedules and conducts practices according to agreed-upon schedules.
  • Supervises athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete leaves.
  • Supervises athletes on buses on trips to other schools.
  • Promotes the entire Norwalk Athletics program.
  • Sets an example of ethical conduct including respecting officials.
  • Promotes values of athletics and sportsmanship among participants and spectators.
  • Promotes a healthy lifestyle to student athletes.
  • Ensures eligibility lists and required documentation are maintained.
  • Communicates with parents regarding team rules and department guidelines.

Job description

Position: Assistant Coach
Reports to Head Coach, Athletic Director
  • Instructs athletes regarding techniques, rules and safety practices of the sport
  • Develops and organizes practice program
  • Schedules and conducts practices according to agreed-upon schedules
  • Supervises athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete leaves, knowing where all participants are at all times
  • Supervises athletes on buses on trips to other schools
  • Promotes the entire Norwalk Athletics program
  • Sets an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct including respecting and supporting contest officials
  • Fosters among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community
  • Promotes a healthy lifestyle to student athletes
  • Assists the head coach and athletic director to ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under the rules of Norwalk CSD
  • Ensures that all athletes have completed and submitted all required documentation, including medical insurance coverage form and have undergone and passed any required medical examinations before the regular practice season begins
  • Communicates with parents in regards to team rules and athletic department guidelines
  • Knows and understands the Norwalk Athletic Department rules and regulations
  • Adheres to all safety laws and district policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the head coach and Athletic Director

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting minimum of 20 pounds, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping.
