Job summary

Des Moines Public School District is seeking an Assistant Girls basketball coach (Stipend) for Lincoln High in Des Moines, IA. The role supports the Head Coach, providing instructional guidance and development for student athletes, while ensuring compliance with district policies.

The position offers a part-time stipend and requires Iowa coaching endorsement/authorization, strong communication skills, and CPR/First Aid certification.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization.
• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
• Coaching and/or leadership experience.
• First Aid and CPR certification.
• Knowledge of conference rules and regulations.
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in the operation of the athletic program.
• Coach and instruct players, individually or in groups, on rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques as directed by the head coach.
• Follow state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
• Provide proper supervision of athletes at all times.
• Participate in organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to join the sport.
• Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related duties as determined by the Head Coach.
• Monitor the academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility requirements are met.
• Model sports‑like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators.
• Participate in special activities including parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
• Follow and maintain knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
• Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
• Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
