Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing safety and health activities at construction sites, industrial plants, or environmental sites to evaluate and control exposure to hazards, specifically for our Iowa, Cedar Falls Projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct job site audits to identify hazards.
- Ensure safety compliance among employees.
- Investigate accidents and prepare reports.
- Develop hazard mitigation strategies.
- Transport or accompany injured employees for medical treatment.
- Create hazard reports and assist in hazard abatement.
- Measure noise and air quality levels.
- Maintain and calibrate safety instruments.
- Inspect and train employees on respirator use.
- Distribute and monitor use of PPE.
- Coordinate respirator fit tests.
- Enforce safety equipment use.
- Train operators of heavy equipment on safety standards.
- Conduct safety training sessions, including new hire orientation.
- Oversee field safety activities and monitor compliance.
- Manage decontamination procedures and permits.
- Develop and oversee emergency response plans.
- Assist in safety budget preparation.
- Maintain personal and team safety accountability, exercising stop work authority when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of company proprietary information.
Employee Safety & Compliance
- Ensure personal and co-worker safety.
- Stop unsafe work when identified.
- Comply with all safety laws and policies.
- Report violations promptly.
- Perform additional safety-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 3 years of safety experience in construction.
- Associates or Bachelors Degree in Safety or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Certifications such as STS-C, CHST, OHST are highly desirable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and mobile devices.
- Ability to interpret safety documents and write reports.
- Effective training and public speaking skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.
- OSHA 510 and/or 30-hour certification required.
- First-aid/CPR Instructor certification is a plus.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodations.
- Proper use of PPE.
- Ability to handle emergencies calmly and respond appropriately.
