Job description

HS Assistant Football Coach (2 positions)

Sanford High School is seeking an Assistant Football Coach. As the assistant coach, you will deliver measurable results in developing, enhancing, and promoting an athletic program that will be distinguished by the team’s display of integrity, citizenship, character, work ethic, and their ability to overcome adversity. Instruct students in appropriate methods to be respectful of themselves, their opponents, and officials regardless of the outcome of their event. Must have knowledge and expertise in the strategies, methods, and techniques of football and provide instruction through games and practices. Should have the ability to manage all aspects of football and have earned or will earn credentials of Maine Coaches to include CPR/First Aid and Current Maine CHRC (fingerprinting).


Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise the student athletes during practices and competition. Assist the head coach with proper preparation and planning, ensuring students are appropriately ready for competition.
  2. Assist the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  3. Assist the head coach, if required, in off-season programs to help players enhance their abilities.
  4. Serve as a role model for students. Model sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  5. Organize and direct individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
  6. Assess player skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the head coach informed of the athletic performance of athletes.
  7. Assist with determining game strategy.
  8. Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. Work with the trainer, Head Coach, and Director of Athletics to ensure proper medical assistance is available and plans are in order for emergency situations.
  9. Assist the head coach in the distribution of equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students and the collection of the same at the end of the season.
  10. Participate in special activities to include parent’s night and awards night.
  11. Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
  12. Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  13. Work to enhance and display the philosophy and objectives of the department. Administer the District athletic codes.
  14. Perform such other duties, consistent with this position, as determined by the head coach, principal/athletic director.

Additional Items:

  1. Schedule must be flexible. Will include evenings and weekends.
  2. Good communication skills.
  3. Previous experience working with high-school aged athletes preferred.
