Job summary

Southern Company Services is seeking an Engineer or Mechanical Field Specialist–HRSGs based in Birmingham, AL, with hybrid field and office duties. The role involves inspecting HRSGs, planning outages, coordinating pressure-part replacements, and supporting system-wide maintenance initiatives across the Southeast.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in HRSG/boiler contexts, strong drawing interpretation, and the ability to work with vendors and plant teams.

Qualifications

• 5 years in HRSG/boiler maintenance or operation preferred.
• Knowledge of HRSG components and maintenance strategies.
• Ability to collaborate with vendors and plant personnel.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% and work across sites.

Responsibilities

• Support HRSG fleet field and office activities, inspect and document findings.
• Provide maintenance planning support for outages and revisions.
• Assist with pressure part replacements, spec reviews, and installation.
• Coordinate system-owner meetings and plant briefings.
• Travel primarily within the Southern Company fleet; some national travel.
• Experience with coal-fired boilers is a plus.
