Job summary

Astera Labs is seeking an HR Operations Intern in San Jose, CA. You will support the HR Operations team across employee and business processes and collaborate with HR leaders, HR business partners, Talent Acquisition, and cross-functional teams.

This paid internship focuses on learning HR operations, improving follow-through, and delivering meaningful project work that enhances efficiency and data accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Own operational follow-through: Track assigned requests, action items, and SLAs from intake through completion.
• Support HR service delivery: Route HR questions to the appropriate contact and escalate blockers when needed.
• Work with HR systems and tools: Learn and use HR systems, reporting tools, and ticketing workflows.
• Maintain accurate information: Support recordkeeping, data checks, and documentation updates.
• Build operational visibility: Prepare reports, status updates, and simple metrics.
• Improve processes: Identify recurring issues and propose practical improvements.
• Partner across HR: Collaborate with HR leaders, HR business partners, Talent Acquisition and cross-functional teams.
• Communicate clearly: Provide timely updates and document decisions.
• Deliver a meaningful project: Own a scoped project or workstream producing a usable asset.

About the role

As an HR Operations Intern at Astera Labs, you will help the HR Operations team deliver reliable, responsive support across employee and business processes. You will learn how HR Operations works with HR leaders, HR business partners, Talent Acquisition, and cross-functional teams, while owning defined work that improves follow-through, visibility, and team efficiency.

This internship is designed for a student who is organized, service-minded, detail-oriented, and excited to learn how strong HR operations enable employees and the business to move forward.

Key responsibilities

• Own operational follow-through: Track assigned requests, action items, and service-level commitments from intake through completion.
• Support HR service delivery: Help organize and route HR questions and requests to the appropriate point of contact, escalating blockers when needed.
• Work with HR systems and tools: Learn and use relevant HR systems, reporting tools, documentation resources, and HR ticketing workflows.
• Maintain accurate information: Support recordkeeping, data checks, documentation updates, and other activities that help keep HR information reliable and accessible.
• Build operational visibility: Prepare or maintain reports, status updates, and simple metrics that help the team understand progress, workload, and follow-through.
• Improve processes: Identify recurring issues, process gaps, or unnecessary manual steps and develop practical recommendations and next steps.
• Partner across HR: Collaborate with HR leaders, HR business partners, Talent Acquisition, HR Operations teammates, and other cross-functional partners.
• Communicate clearly: Provide timely updates, clarify ownership, document decisions, and follow through on commitments.
• Deliver a meaningful project: Own a scoped project or workstream that produces a useful process, analysis, documentation asset, workflow improvement, or other durable team deliverable.

Basic qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a college or graduate program.
• Interest in HR operations, human resources, people programs, business operations, or a related field.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and follow through reliably.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions and learn new processes.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Preferred qualifications

• Coursework, project, or internship experience related to human resources, operations, business, organizational development, or a related area.
• Experience with reporting, process documentation, project coordination, ticketing, or workflow management.Exposure to HR systems, employee lifecycle processes, or service-delivery operations.
• Comfort organizing data and turning information into clear updates or recommendations.
• Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders or supporting an internal customer base.
• Interest in building a career in HR Operations or broader people programs.

Internship experience and compensation

This is a paid, hourly U.S. internship. The applicable hourly rate is determined as part of the offer process and specified in the offer letter, depending on education level ranges from $35/hour to $55/hour. U.S. interns currently receive a $500-per-week housing/relocation stipend for the duration of the internship. Interns participate in Early Career programming, including technical and professional-development sessions, community events, and an end-of-program project presentation.
