Job summary

APEL Extrusions has an immediate requirement for a qualified Human Resources Manager at its Phoenix AZ facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the HR Manager will provide comprehensive HR support across the employee life cycle and partner with plant leadership to implement HR strategies and workforce planning.

The role also involves corporate HR initiatives across North American operations, ensuring compliance, driving engagement, and supporting a productive work environment.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in HR Management with at least 3 years of payroll, workers' compensation, and benefits administration experience.
  • CHRP designation or progress towards certification is a plus.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
  • Experience in Disability Management, Loss Control, Incident Investigation, and Workers' Compensation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment including screening, interviewing and onboarding.
  • Serve as liaison between management and employees, addressing disputes and investigations.
  • Oversee performance management and provide guidance to managers.
  • Administer employee benefits and support employee development.
  • Identify training needs and facilitate workshops.
  • Oversee payroll administration for nonexempt, hourly and salaried employees.
  • Maintain HRIS/HRMS systems and personnel files for compliance.
  • Develop and enforce company policies and the employee handbook; ensure labor-law compliance.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive employee engagement program.
  • Monitor vacation schedules and accruals for all staff.
  • Participate in workplace Environmental, Health and Safety Committee.
  • Prepare HR KPIs and reports (headcount, turnover, attendance).
  • Support Workers' Compensation processes and OSHA reporting; assist with return to work.

APEL Extrusions, Inc. is an independent extruder, finisher and fabricator of aluminum extrusions, with six extrusion presses and a full array of finishing capabilities occupying over 600,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space employing approximately 300 people. With facilities in Calgary Canada, Coburg Oregon, and Phoenix Arizona, APEL serves the commercial, residential, and industrial markets of Western Canada and the Western United States.

Job Summary

APEL Extrusions has an immediate requirement for a qualified Human Resources Manager in its Phoenix AZ facility.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the HR Manager serves as a key member of APEL’s Management Team and is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support throughout the employee life cycle. This role partners with plant leadership to implement HR strategies, support workforce planning, maintain compliance, and foster a positive, engaging, and productive work environment.

In addition to plant related HR responsibilities, the HR Manager with work with other facility HR Managers and APEL’s Leadership Team to create, develop and implement corporate HR Initiatives across APEL’s North American Operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the full-cycle recruitment process including recruitment activities, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Act as the liaison between management and employees, addressing disputes, conducting investigations, documenting, and providing recommendations for resolution.
  • Oversee performance management system providing guidance to managers and employees.
  • Administer employee benefits programs providing insight and guidance to all employees.
  • Identify training needs, facilitate workshops, and support employee development.
  • Efficiently and accurately manage payroll administration working with managers and payroll to compile the biweekly payroll for nonexempt, hourly and salaried employees.
  • Complete HR transactions and manage use of HRMS/HRIS systems.
  • Maintain and update personnel files to ensure documentation is complete and compliant.
  • Develop, update, improve, and enforce company policies and the employee handbook.
  • Maintain compliance with all labor laws.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive employee engagement program.
  • Maintain vacation schedules and accruals for both salary and hourly employees.
  • Participate in APEL’s workplace Environmental, Health and Safety Committee.
  • Prepare key HR KPIs and reports including headcount, turnover, and attendance.
  • Manage the Workers Compensation process, assist with OSHA reporting, and return to work requirements.
  • Ensure HR availability for all shifts, including occasional support for off‑shift employees.
  • Support employees in areas of: Employee Assistance Program, Training, and Return to Work Programs.
  • Lead or participate in both Plant and Corporate HR projects that support business objectives.
  • Provide HR support to other locations as needed.
Qualifications & Competencies
  • The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education in Human Resource Management coupled with at least 3 years of payroll, WC, and benefits administration experience.
  • A Certified Human Resources Professional (C.H.R.P.) designation or progress towards this certification would be a decided asset.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office suite of products particularly Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in Disability Management, Loss Control, Incident Investigation, and Workers Compensation.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and credibility with employees at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism.
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Experience within the Manufacturing industry is a decided asset.
Travel
  • Periodic (quarterly) travel to APEL’s US operations should be expected.
