So What's the Job?

The HR Generalist will lead our Payroll, Benefits Administration, and HRIS/data integrity functions and provide backup support as needed for a variety of other areas within the People Operations (POps) team. Additional functions the Generalist may participate in as needed include, but are not limited to, leave management, compliance, file management, and employee relations. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, supporting employee engagement, and fostering a positive workplace culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key point of contact and escalation point for employee and leader questions about payroll, benefits, and our HRIS. Serves as an expert resource for other People Ops team members on these topics and other POps policies and programs as needed.

Payroll:

  • Research and resolve escalated payroll issues
  • Process and/or serve as backup processing payroll, manage discrepancies, and oversee benefit changes and PTO balances
  • Assist with state payroll tax and unemployment reporting and tracking requirements
  • Assist in disseminating sales incentive plans and commissions statements

Benefits Administration:

  • Oversee employee benefits administration, including new hire enrollment, 401K enrollment, and health benefits renewals
  • Research and resolve escalated benefits issues
  • Lead and recommend process improvements for benefits education with employees, including new hires
  • Heavy involvement in open enrollment (OE), ensuring proper data updates, file transfers, etc.; may review and disseminate OE communications and education materials
  • Participate in benefit contract reviews in partnership with the POps Director and the broker.

HRIS & Data Management:

  • Process and/or oversee processing of employee data changes in HRIS, such as promotions, transfers, and terminations; maintain accurate employee data in HRIS
  • Research and resolve escalated HRIS issues
  • Manage employee files and records, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance
  • Utilize HRIS for data management, reporting, and analysis as needed
  • Prepare and disseminate employee change letters and other documents to employees

May participate in a variety of other HR related projects as needed, including:

  • Policy & Program Maintenance: Create and/or maintain department policies and program documents
  • Compliance and Legal: General compliance needs, EEO and other compliance reporting, Compliance training tracking
  • Leave Management: Leave Management coordination with third party vendor, Coordination of payroll and leave programs, Existing knowledge of or ability to research state and local leave laws to ensure compliance
  • Employee Relations: Triage employee relations and performance concerns, may participate in and/or lead simple investigations as needed

What is ISSA looking for?

  • Must have 5 years or more of relevant experience working in a Human Resources/People Operations role; experience at a small to mid-size company preferred
  • HR experience must include strong payroll management and benefits administration experience; ideally, with at least some of that experience being employee-facing
  • Direct experience working within various cloud-based Core HR platforms; experience with Rippling a plus; HRIS implementation experience preferred
  • Understanding of HR best practices, labor laws, compliance regulations, and licensing/filing with state governing bodies
  • Knowledge and comfort working in Microsoft Office or G Suite tools
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Self-starter, proactive, detail-oriented, with delegation skills, and capable of handling multiple tasks and projects
