Job summary

Meijer Inc. is seeking a general Human Resources Generalist to support Supply Chain manufacturing and distribution facilities. The role focuses on recruiting, screening, and onboarding hourly and salaried staff, while partnering with hiring managers to meet business objectives.

You will guide job profile creation, source candidates, and coordinate interviews, job fairs, and onboarding activities. Emphasis on compliance with EEO/ADA and strong communication with leaders across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.
  • PHR or SPHR certification desirable.
  • 3–5 years of HR Generalist experience in a support role.
  • Minimum of 3 years of HR Generalist experience required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience using Workday in HR.
  • Experience in staffing and leadership recruiting practices.

Responsibilities

This position provides general human resources support for Supply Chain manufacturing and distribution facilities as needed. Primary focuses for this role include recruiting, screening hourly and salaried job candidates to fill existing and future job openings. This role is also responsible for orientation facilitation, direct unit support and handling general HR inquiries from team members. This role supports the HR Team in completing other tasks as needed, including Talent Management, Training, Employee Relations, Performance Management, Benefits Administration, and Grievance Administration. This roll is 100% on-site people facing position supporting our teams in our distribution facilities. Requests for remote/hybrid schedules will not be considered.

What You'll be Doing:
  • Recruiting, Interviewing and Screening hourly and salaried job candidates.
  • Meet with hiring managers to understand business objectives and candidate requirements.
  • Manage job profile creation and updates into the job library as needed.
  • Source active candidates through networking, cold calling, Internet research.
  • Contact community job placement services, private personnel agencies and colleges to set up interviews with job counselors for prospective job candidates.
  • Coordinate and attend job fairs and other hiring events.
  • Assist hiring managers through all processes related to the recruiting and selection process.
  • Screen all candidates for availability, interest level, salary requirements, relocation needs and basic qualifications.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with hiring managers to stay abreast of current and future hiring and business needs.
  • Ensure Recruiting and Onboarding Compliance.
  • Monitor interviewing, testing and hiring processes to ensure adherence with all equal employment opportunity (EEO) legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other government compliance requirements.
  • Provide coaching and training as needed for hiring managers.
  • Initiate and track pre-employment screening, including drug screens, physicals, background checks, and reference checks.
  • Maintain necessary documentation related to recruiting efforts.
  • New hire paperwork facilitation.
  • Facilitate orientation and onboarding.
  • Develop and monitor metrics related to recruiting, hiring, onboarding and turnover.
  • Track headcount/staffing numbers.
  • Monitor costs related to the recruiting/selection effort; ensures adherence to budget limits.
  • General Human Resources support for all business leaders and HR team as needed.
  • Provide interpretation of company policies and procedures covering the areas of employee relations, compensation, benefits administration and workers compensation.
  • Train leadership on best practices regarding employee and labor relations.
  • Coach management and line leaders on how to maximize team member performance including creating action plans in preparation for corrective action.
  • Assist with HR special projects as needed.
What You Bring with You (Qualifications):
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in related field required.
  • PHR or SPHR certification desirable.
  • 3 to 5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience in a support role.
  • Minimum of 3 years is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience using Workday in the HR world.
  • Experience in areas of employment with a focus on staffing and leadership recruiting practices.
  • Prior experience with technology solutions.
  • Excellent interviewing skills, including knowledge or behavior-based interview techniques.
  • Demonstrated business acumen.
  • Strong relationship skills with all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple demands concurrently.
  • Current knowledge of applicable state and federal employment laws.
  • Demonstrated superior communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office, mainframe payroll/personnel system (Workday required), and on-line communications programs.
