Job description

HPI Claims Attorney – Purchase, NY (Hybrid)

Location: New York, NY (or Mount Kisco, NY). Remote or in‑person office based.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the litigation process for claims to minimize company risk of loss.
  • Analyze coverage issues, conduct investigations, and evaluate to determine the validity of moderately complex claims; may work with outside counsel.
  • Prepare and draft moderately complex legal correspondence to affected parties using mail, fax, or other electronic means.
  • Maintain claim files – both physical and electronic, and update as needed.
  • Communicate with agents, principals, claimants, and other attorneys orally and in writing regarding claim status, information requests, and payment/denial of claim.
  • Attend court hearings, including mediations, settlement conferences, and trials.
  • Assign designated claims to outside counsel, manage the process, ensure compliance with company policy and procedure, and approve company charges/billing.
  • Negotiate claim settlement, seeking approval or denial for claims outside the defined limit.
  • Conduct legal research and other miscellaneous legal matters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements
  • Minimum Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) degree or equivalent.
  • Licensure to practice law in the applicable state jurisdiction(s).
  • Two years of relevant legal and/or professional experience in insurance claims.
  • New York residents only.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $119,480 – $165,660 annually in the New York, NY or Mount Kisco, NY location, based on experience, education, and skill level.
