Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced HPC Systems Administrator in Irving, TX, to manage and optimize complex HPC environments, including clusters, storage, and network infrastructure.

The role requires strong Linux administration experience, scripting skills in Bash and Python, and expertise with HPC schedulers and parallel file systems. You will implement security, handle on-call incidents, and collaborate with vendors on hardware upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or three years of related Linux systems administration or HPC infrastructure experience in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain HPC systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure for high-performance computing.
  • Install and configure HPC hardware (clusters, servers, storage).
  • Deploy and configure HPC software (OS, job schedulers, parallel environments).
  • Set up network infrastructure for high-speed data transfer.
  • Monitor system health and resource utilization.
  • Analyze job performance and identify bottlenecks.
  • Optimize job scheduling algorithms to maximize throughput.
  • Tune system parameters for performance.
  • Provide user support on system access, job submission, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop user documentation and training materials.
  • Implement security policies for HPC systems and manage user access.
  • Monitor for security threats and perform disaster recovery planning.
  • Coordinate hardware repairs and upgrades with vendors.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain HPC systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and stability for computationally intensive research or business applications.
  • Install and configure HPC hardware (clusters, servers, storage).
  • Deploy and configure HPC software (operating systems, job schedulers, parallel programming environments).
  • Set up network infrastructure for high-speed data transfer.
  • Monitor system health and resource utilization.
  • Analyze job performance and identify bottlenecks.
  • Optimize job scheduling algorithms to maximize throughput.
  • Tune system parameters for optimal performance.
  • Provide technical support to HPC users on system access, job submission, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop user documentation and training materials.
  • Implement security policies and procedures for HPC systems.
  • Manage user access and permissions.
  • Monitor for potential security threats.
  • Implement data backup strategies for HPC systems.
  • Test and maintain disaster recovery plans.
  • Coordinate hardware repairs and upgrades with vendors.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field, or three (3) years of directly related Linux systems administration or HPC infrastructure experience in lieu of a bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Linux system administration experience in an enterprise or HPC environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years administering or supporting High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with HPC job schedulers such as IBM LSF.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience administering parallel file systems, such as IBM Spectrum Scale (GPFS), Lustre, or BeeGFS.
  • Minimum of 2 years supporting enterprise storage solutions, such as NetApp E-Series or similar SAN storage platforms.
  • Experience supporting high-speed networking technologies, including InfiniBand or equivalent low latency networking.
  • Experience troubleshooting Linux operating systems, networking, storage, and distributed computing environments.
  • Experience with shell scripting (Bash) and/or Python for system administration and automation.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining enterprise server hardware in a data center environment.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours production incidents.
  • Ability to lift and install server, storage, and networking equipment as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
