Job summary

GIGATEC Engineering in Columbia, MD is seeking a seasoned Linux systems administrator to manage large-scale Linux clusters, automate tasks, and maintain security compliance within the Agency STE/STN framework.

You will collaborate with product owners, hardware and storage teams, and system admins to deliver reliable, service-focused hardware capabilities, using Bash, Python, Docker, and IaC tools. This role requires Top Secret clearance and polygraph; U.S. work eligibility is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Extensive Linux systems administration experience.
• Scripting in Bash and Python for automation.
• Experience installing, configuring, and supporting software across large-scale Linux clusters.
• Knowledge of STE/STN security compliance requirements and policies.
• Understanding of server components: compute, storage, networks, memory, databases.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tools (SaltStack, Ansible).
• Hands-on Docker, Podman, and containerd experience.
• Familiarity with Fibre Channel storage systems.
• Experience with OLVM for managing virtualized Linux environments.

At GIGATEC, you’ll collaborate with product owners, program managers, hardware engineers, networking and storage teams, system administrators, and customer stakeholders to deliver reliable, service-focused hardware capabilities supporting the Agency’s STE/STN objectives. You’ll administer Linux cluster environments, automate operational and maintenance tasks with Bash and Python, and integrate software, storage, virtualization, and container technologies while maintaining security compliance. You’ll also create and maintain clear technical documentation that connects teams, preserves engineering knowledge, and supports long-term system sustainment. RequiredSkills

• Demonstrated Linux systems administration experience and command-line proficiency.
• Bash and Python scripting to automate operational and maintenance tasks.
• Experience installing, configuring, and supporting COTS, GOTS, and FOSS software across large-scale Linux clusters.
• Familiarity with Agency STE/STN security compliance requirements and established policies.
• Broad understanding of server components, including compute, storage arrays, network fabrics, memory architectures, and database technologies.
• Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts and experience with SaltStack and Ansible.
• Hands-on knowledge of Docker, Podman, and containerd.
• Familiarity with Fibre Channel–attached storage systems.
• Familiarity with Oracle Linux Virtualization Manager (OLVM) for managing virtualized Linux environments.

DesiredSkills

• Familiarity with Kubernetes container orchestration.
• Familiarity with distributed file systems such as Weka, Ceph, GPFS, and HDFS.
• Experience with Jira and Confluence.
