Job summary

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is seeking a HPC AI Systems Administrator Intern in Minnesota for a hybrid role requiring an average of 2 days per week in an HPE office. The internship offers hands-on Linux systems administration exposure within the HPC and AI Data Center Administration team, focused on security visibility, logging, and vulnerability management.

You will develop scripts, dashboards, and documentation to baseline system visibility and enable post-internship use by the team.

Qualifications

• Linux is the working environment for this role, not a GUI environment.
• Currently enrolled in a degree program in cybersecurity, computer science, software engineering, information systems, computer engineering, network administration, or a related technical field.
• Working comfort on the Linux command line.
• Able to navigate a filesystem, read and edit configuration files, inspect running services and logs, manage users and permissions, and troubleshoot without a GUI.
• Demonstrated hands-on Linux exposure through at least one of: a Linux/Unix systems administration course, home lab Linux environment, prior internship or job with Linux responsibilities, or coursework in a Linux-based environment.
• Interest in cybersecurity, infrastructure, monitoring, or automation.
• Ability to organize technical findings clearly in writing.
• Willingness to learn from experienced administrators.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inventory validation for HPC and AI lab systems.
• Review monitoring, logging, and vulnerability scanning coverage across a heterogeneous system fleet.
• Identify gaps in agent deployment, log forwarding, scan inclusion, and system ownership records.
• Build scripts, reports, or dashboards that summarize security visibility.
• Document hardening expectations and practical checklists for lab systems.
• Work with system administrators to validate findings and prioritize follow-up work.
• Present project results and recommendations at the end of the internship.
