Job summary

Simarn Solutions is seeking a Data Engineer in Houston, TX, to modernize SQL Server databases and migrate to PostgreSQL or Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL. You will design scalable data models and build cloud data solutions with Databricks and S3.

The role requires 5–9 years of data engineering experience and hands-on work with Databricks, S3, and DevOps practices, including CI/CD and automated testing. Collaboration with architects and product teams is essential.

Qualifications

• 5–9 years of data or database engineering experience.
• Hands-on with Databricks, Amazon S3, and DevOps practices.
• Strong SQL skills in transactional relational databases.
• Experience assessing SQL Server environments for modernization.
• Experience migrating databases to PostgreSQL or Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Understanding of relational data modeling, indexing, and performance.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and controlled deployments.
• Experience validating migration accuracy and managing production cutover and recovery.

Responsibilities

• Assess existing SQL Server databases, including schemas and dependencies.
• Plan and execute migrations to PostgreSQL or Aurora PostgreSQL, including schema conversion.
• Design and optimize transactional data models for performance and scalability.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines using Databricks and Amazon S3.
• Support database modernization while separating transactional, integration, and analytical data concerns.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines and automated schema validation.
• Perform SQL tuning, indexing, reconciliation, and production troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with application teams and stakeholders to deliver reliable data solutions.
