Under immediate supervision, performs routine technical support duties and responsibilities related to housing and community development programs and activities.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Incumbents, at this level, perform routine technical duties and responsibilities. Generally, work is observed and reviewed both during performance and upon completion.

• Answer routine telephone and front counter inquiries regarding housing programs.
• Perform initial interviews and collect tenant data in housing rehabilitation projects to determine housing and relocation assistance needs of families.
• Prepare program mailing.
• Perform preliminary screening of program applicants.
• Perform Housing Quality Standards inspection duties.
• Process a variety of housing program applications.
• Carry out caseload management tasks for a limited rental assistance or housing rehabilitation caseload.
• Provide assistance to higher level positions for special and routine projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the job classification.

• Housing and other related social needs.
• City of Redding housing programs, program regulations, eligibility standards, and policies and procedures.

• Interact effectively with the public and employees.

• Communicate well, both orally and in writing; accurately interpret program information.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements:

• Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
• Typical education would include an Associate's degree from an accredited college, or equivalent with major course work in Public Administration, Social Sciences, or other related field.
• Typical experience would include one year experience in a housing related field, public program service or any equivalent combination of training and relevant experience.
• Possession of the appropriate California driver's license, or the ability to acquire one within ten days of appointment.

Selection Process:

• Positive past employment references
• Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
• Passing a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test

Veteran's Credit: Applicants who attach a copy of the DD-214 to their application indicating "Honorable Discharge" from military service and receive a passing score on the examination process will have two (2) additional points added to their final examination score.
