Overview

BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being through various programs across 65 locations in the borough. We are committed to ethical standards and treating everyone with dignity and respect. We seek a dedicated Housing Specialist to assist clients in securing permanent housing.

Responsibilities

1. Secure permanent housing for homeless clients through outreach and partnerships with landlords and brokers.
2. Search and secure affordable apartments and rooms within New York City.
3. Operate BronxWorks’ vehicle to transport clients and conduct travel within NYC.
4. Accompany clients during apartment viewings and inspect unoccupied units.
5. Pre-screen clients for housing subsidies and assist with navigating housing programs.
6. Visit shelters and conduct fieldwork as necessary.
7. Refer clients to housing resources and maintain client documentation.
8. Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
2. At least two years of experience in a social service setting, preferably with housing services.
3. Knowledge of NYC housing resources and rental subsidies is preferred.
4. Bi-lingual in Spanish and a valid driver’s license with minimal violations preferred.
5. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related technology.

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
2. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds and conduct field visits in various weather conditions.
3. Ability to travel across NYC and adjacent counties.
4. TB test required within first 120 days of employment.
