The Planning & Programming team is seeking a Housing Planning intern to support work on SACOG’s housing program, including the Cycle 7 Housing Element process and the Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA). This position offers the opportunity to gain hands- on experience in regional planning, data analysis, and policy development that directly shapes the future of housing in the region.
Hours are flexible within our regular business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Interns may work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and up to 30 hours per week in the summer, depending on school schedule. To be eligible for this paid one-year student internship, candidates must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university for the entire duration of the internship.
As an Intern on SACOG’s Planning & Programming team, you will support the agency’s regional planning work related to housing, land use, and community development. This internship provides an opportunity to learn how a regional planning agency works across jurisdictions to address housing needs and advance regional goals. The intern will work alongside Planning & Programming staff on research, data analysis, policy development, and other projects that support SACOG’s regional planning efforts.

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds.
This is primarily a sedentary classification and the employee works in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. The employee interfaces with staff, management, other agency representatives, member jurisdictions, government officials, business representatives, and the general public in explaining SACOG policies and requesting and providing information.
