Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is seeking a Housing Specialist to assist individuals and families in securing housing. The role focuses on assessments, case management, and helping clients apply for housing subsidies. The position requires collaboration with landlords and real estate partners within NYC.

You will maintain housing resources, address barriers, and travel within NYC to support placement. A high school diploma and housing experience with NYC DHS or similar are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 6 months housing/real estate experience with NYC DHS or similar.
• Experience in case management or social services for homeless populations.
• Knowledge of housing subsidies and entitlement programs.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and advocacy skills.
• Willingness to travel within the community and complete CPR/First Aid training.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing assessments to determine readiness and needs.
• Assist clients in securing safe, affordable housing options.
• Provide case management and assist with housing/rental subsidy applications.
• Develop relationships with landlords, brokers, and real estate agencies.
• Maintain updated housing resources and track placement reports.
• Coordinate with case managers to address client needs and barriers.
• Inspect apartments to ensure housing standards compliance.
• Advocate for clients to obtain subsidies (Section 8, FEPS, NYC programs).
• Travel with clients to view apartments and support placements.
