Job summary

Build Up Justice NYC is seeking a PAH Brooklyn Social Worker to provide referral services and limited counseling, advocate for client benefits, and support outreach and staff collaboration. The role involves directing clients to medical, mental health, and social services, while preparing reports and liaising with partners.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree, MSW preferred, and NYS certification; bilingual ability and a commitment to equity are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree required; MSW preferred.
• New York State Certification or LMSW preferred.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience with housing crises, unemployment, disability, mental illness, IPV, or substance abuse.
• Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication.
• Ability to work with diverse tenants and communities.
• Strong writing with minimal errors.
• Fluency in English; bilingual Spanish or other language preferred.
• Ability to manage a high caseload and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with case notes and BUJNYC system.

Responsibilities

• Provide social services assessments and oversee client services planning and case management.
• Advocate to secure benefits and services from social and governmental agencies.
• Develop referral resources and provide clients with referrals relevant to their legal case and maintain liaisons with providers.
• Assist clients in identifying service needs and preparing for engaging in services.
• Develop service plans and prepare clients to advocate on their own behalf.
• Provide supportive counseling, crisis intervention, education and safety planning.
• Confer with attorneys on social work advocacy related to legal matters.
• Accompany clients to court or agency appointments and outreach events.
• Participate in outreach, education, and training with community groups, including evenings/weekends.
• Prepare reports, proposals, and documents related to work.
• Maintain up-to-date client information in BUJNYC’s case management system.
• Collaborate with program managers and development team to write narrative reports for grants/contracts.
