Job summary

Colorado Springs Housing Authority is seeking a Housing Inspector - Section 8 to support the Inspection Program, investigate HQS complaints, and enforce housing, health, and safety standards across properties.

The role requires inspecting homes and buildings, documenting violations, and communicating with residents, landlords, and staff. Some travel outside city limits may be required; valid Colorado driver's license preferred.

Qualifications

• HQs program knowledge including housing standards, environmental health, and related regulations.
• Principles and techniques of housing inspection and regulation enforcement.
• Ability to evaluate housing for program status and compliance.
• Experience researching property ownership and related records.
• Basic math, record keeping, and report preparation skills.
• Geographic knowledge of the city and local codes.

Responsibilities

• Perform HQS enforcement duties and responsibilities in assigned areas.
• Read, interpret, and enforce applicable city, state and federal codes, ordinances and regulations related to housing, zoning, and environmental health issues.
• Research property records and relayed documents to establish property ownership.
• Perform mathematical computations.
• Prepare clear and concise letters and reports.
• Interpret, communicate, and apply city codes and ordinances to residents, staff, and landlords.
• Compile and collect data.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to interact with a diverse tenant/landlord population.
• Establish and maintain effective tenant, resident and staff relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
