The City of Wyoming isseeking a Housing Inspector to join the building inspections department. TheHousing Inspector position performs detailed technical and specializedinspection work involving the enforcement of City codes that regulate thehealth and safety of properties, building construction and zoning to ensurecompliance with established standards, ordinances, codes, rules, andregulations. In this role, you will perform field inspections, interpret andenforce municipal adopted codes related to rental inspections.
Duties include, but are notlimited to responding to public inquiries, processing field inspections,identifying code violations, preparing correspondence, reports, andcompleting other office work as necessary. The ability to learn andefficiently utilize electronic field tablet technology isrequired. Qualified candidates must have good powers of observation, beable to work under pressure, have excellent customer service, verbal andwritten communication skills, exercise independent judgment, and have theability to maintain a positive attitude in all circumstances. The abilityto traverse difficult terrain and work in inclement weather conditions isrequired.
Applicants must beregistered or qualified for registration as a mechanical inspector and mechanicalplan reviewer with the state of Michigan. Requirements can be found in Part 10of Public Act 407 (Skilled Trades Act) and Skilled Trades Regulation Rules.Bilingual skills are helpful but not required. Approximately 60% ofthe work performed will be related to rental inspections and 40% of the workperformed will be related to mechanical inspections.
