Job summary

Horizons is seeking a Housing & Financial Wellness Counselor in Cedar Rapids, IA to help individuals build financial stability, navigate homeownership, improve credit, and address housing challenges. The position offers training to become HUD-certified and starts at $19/hour with a $1/hour raise upon certification.

You will provide one-on-one counseling, develop budgets, connect clients to resources, maintain records per HUD rules, and help run homebuyer education workshops.

Qualifications

• Experience in counseling or financial education is a plus.
• No previous housing counseling experience required—we'll provide training and support to obtain HUD certification.
• Associate or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
• Strong communication skills and empathy to work with individuals and families.

Horizons is looking for a Housing & Financial Wellness Counselor to help individuals and families build financial stability, prepare for homeownership, improve their credit, and navigate housing challenges. If you enjoy helping people solve problems and reach meaningful goals, this could be a great fit.

No previous housing counseling experience required-we'll provide the training and support to help the right candidate become a HUD-certified Housing Counselor.

What You'll Do

You May Be a Great Fit If You...

Enjoy working one-on-one with people, are comfortable talking about money, and can explain financial concepts clearly. You're organized, compassionate, and dependable. Experience in banking, lending, mortgage servicing, financial education, credit counseling, housing, or human services is especially valuable. An associate or bachelor's degree in a related field-or equivalent experience-is preferred.

Already HUD-certified? We'd love to hear from you. If not, you'll be expected to earn your certification within four months of hire, with our support.
