Job summary

Homeward Pikes Peak seeks a Housing Assistant for The Commons in Colorado Springs. You will ensure residents adhere to program rules, assist with lease compliance, and report to the Program Manager with a Tue–Sat schedule.

Prior front desk experience and Knowledge of recovery services are valued. Responsibilities include crisis support, building safety, visitor management, coordinating with Case Managers, and organizing community events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a human services field such as Social Work or Psychology.
• CAS (Colorado Addiction Counselor) or CAT (Certified Addictions Tech) certification.
• Peer Recovery Coach certification or QBHA certification.
• Understanding of HIPAA privacy in therapy services and medical billing.
• First Aid and CPR certification, or to be obtained within 30 days.
• Mental Health First Aid certification (NAMI) or to be obtained within 30 days.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to residents, including crisis intervention and recovery resources.
• Perform regular walk-throughs to ensure wellness, safety, and maintenance needs.
• Monitor building front door and manage visitor check-ins.
• Assist with light maintenance around the front desk and entryway.
• Support residents in their recovery and coordinate with Case Managers.
• Mediate conflicts and coordinate responses with staff and Case Managers.
• Coordinate emergencies with property management and support staff.
• Oversee donations for food pantry and clients.
• Plan, organize, and oversee community events such as town halls.
• Update and maintain community calendars.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

We create opportunities for individuals and families to restore dignity through treatment and recovery programs, mental health services, and providing housing first. All our programs offer case management to set our clients up for success.

Summary

The Housing Assistant provides continuity in housing and facilities for The Commons, a supportive housing apartment building in Colorado Springs. The Housing Assistant ensures that each resident adheres to the rules of the program and their lease. This position reports to the Program Manager, and will have a schedule of Tuesday – Saturday.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide support to residents living in the supportive housing program, including managing potential crisis intervention, and providing recovery support, resources and referrals.
• Perform regular walk-throughs of the building to ensure wellness and safety for all residents and identify any problems or needs for maintenance to address the next day.
• Monitor the front door of the building and check in visitors.
• Ability to do some light maintenance around the front desk and entryway.
• Support the clients and residents in their recovery and redirect the client to work with their Case Manager to ensure they are working through their individual service plan. May have to employ motivational interviewing and provide support to build recovery skills of residents.
• Mediate resident conflicts, receive complaints, and coordinate responses with building staff and Case Managers.
• Work closely with property management and The Commons support staff to mitigate and resolve any personal, medical, or facility emergencies.
• Perform outreach, outsource, and coordination of donated items for the food pantry and clients.
• Plan, organize, and oversee community events, to include town hall.
• Monitor and update community calendars.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Homeward Pikes Peak Team Responsibilities

• Attend and participate in staff meetings.
• Attend, participate, and interact with donors or fundraising events as requested.
• Produce documentation timely as requested for audits or other business requirements.
• Maintain work and office environment to professional standards.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience at a front desk setting
• One of the below degree or certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a human services field such as Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
  • CAS (Colorado Addiction Counselor)
  • CAT (Certified Addictions Tech) certification
  • Peer Recovery Coach certification
  • QBHA (Qualified Behavioral Health Assistant)
• Understanding of the mental health and substance abuse recovery process.
• First Aid and CPR certification required, or to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
• Mental Health First Aid certification by NAMI required, or to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations and standards regarding privacy and confidentiality in the provision of therapy services and medical billing.
• Proficiency in general computer skills and Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to efficiently track donations that are received.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license, clean driving record, and must have personal vehicle insurance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Lived Experience is useful to understanding the culture of a supportive housing program.
• Addictions counselling knowledge, experience or certifications preferred.
• Knowledge and training in generalized health care standards, substance abuse recovery process and treatment, mental health care, and trauma informed care skills.

Physical Demands

• While performing job duties, the employee will be regularly required to sit and stand for the duration of their shift.
• Must be able to move or lift 25 lbs. on a regular basis, and heavier on occasion.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary for this position is $22.00 – $23.00 per hour. This is a full-time non-exempt position.
