Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village seeks a full-time Housing Specialist in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. You will conduct housing assessments, coordinate with case managers, and help clients secure safe, affordable housing and subsidies.

The role requires strong communication and computer skills and may involve traveling across NYC. Responsibilities include maintaining housing resources, advocating for clients, inspecting apartments for compliance, and supporting individualized housing plans.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in housing or real estate with NYC DHS or similar city programs.
• Experience in case management or social services for homelessness, substance use, mental health, or complex needs.
• Knowledge of housing subsidies and entitlement programs.
• Ability to identify and address barriers to housing for clients.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and advocacy skills.
• Strong computer skills (MS Office, EHR).
• Willingness to complete CPR and First Aid training.

Responsibilities

• Conduct housing assessments to determine readiness and needs.
• Help clients secure safe, affordable, and permanent housing options.
• Provide comprehensive case management and assist with housing and rental subsidy applications.
• Build and maintain relationships with landlords, brokers, and real estate agencies.
• Maintain updated housing resources and community partners database.
• Coordinate with case managers to address client needs and barriers.
• Inspect apartments for compliance with housing standards.
• Advocate for clients to obtain housing subsidies including Section 8, FEPS, NYC programs.
• Maintain tracking forms, documentation, and placement reports.
• Support individualized housing plans and OOR registrations and inspections.
• Travel within NYC with clients to view apartments.
