Job summary

Job Description

Housekeeping Supervisor oversees and performs the day‑to‑day operations of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local regulations that govern the life plan community.

Responsibilities
  • Operations Management – 45% Supervise and assign housekeeping tasks to departmental staff; ensure tasks are performed in accordance with established housekeeping procedures. Ensure cleaning procedures meet residents and staff needs. Staff department and schedule accordingly. Coordinate services and activities with other departments (Culinary, Laundry, Maintenance, Therapy, Activities, and Social Services).
  • Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management – 20% Maintain safe housekeeping functions for residents, staff, and visitors. Ensure quality assurance, infection control, and universal precaution practices are upheld. Maintain necessary equipment and supplies. Share observations and insights to improve quality and efficiency.
  • People Management and Development – 20% Manage housekeeping staff, foster a positive work environment, interview, select, or orient new direct reports. Define performance expectations, evaluate job performance, provide developmental guidance, monitor accountability, and work with Human Resources as needed. Plan and conduct in‑service training and orientation programs. Ensure staffing plans for absences or vacancies. Respond promptly to staff questions and requests.
  • Customer Relations and Service Management – 10% Listen and respond to residents and staff needs. Review and respond to housekeeping complaints and grievances. Honor residents' personal and property rights and ensure staff do the same.
  • Administration and Reporting – 5% Maintain records through computers or other documentation tools, in accordance with standards and regulations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Executive Housekeeper designation from the International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in housekeeping operations management.
  • Experience in a long‑term care facility, hospital, or other related medical facility preferred.
  • Knowledge of housekeeping practices, procedures, standards, guidelines, and regulations in a long‑term care environment preferred.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the internet.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Working Conditions and Special Requirements
  • Sitting – up to 4 hours/day.
  • Standing – up to 8 hours/day.
  • Walking – up to 6 hours/day.
  • Lifting, transferring, pushing or pulling residents/patients or equipment/supplies – up to 50 pounds.
  • Work weekends, evenings, and holidays – as needed for coverage.
  • On‑call availability – 24/7 for emergencies.
  • Exposure to disease processes, falls, burns, odors, cuts, infectious waste, AIDS, hepatitis B, bloodborne diseases.
