Job summary

HMR Veterans Services is seeking a Housekeeping Staff at the Richard A. Anderson Texas State Veterans Home in Houston to maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment under facility leadership.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, the ability to read, write, speak and understand English, and lifting up to 25 pounds. This full-time position offers a comprehensive benefits package including a 401(k) with company match, health coverage, PTO and tuition reimbursement.

• Must lift/move up to 25 lbs and assist with emergency evacuations if needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
• Empty and sanitize ash trays daily; dispose properly.
• Clean fixtures, furnishings, and surfaces in resident areas daily.
• Clean bathrooms, windows, floors, carpets, and ceilings.
• Discard waste into proper containers and maintain clean storage areas.
• Perform infection control and isolation cleaning procedures as required.

What You'll Do

As a Housekeeping Staff, primary purpose of this position is to support daily housekeeping operations in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, ensuring the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment as directed by facility leadership. Responsibilities include:

• Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
• Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments.
• Empty and sanitize ash trays daily. (NOTE: Ash trays must be emptied into appropriate metal containers with self-closing cover devices.)
• Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc., in resident rooms, recreational areas, etc., daily as instructed.
• Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Ensure that water marks are removed from fixtures.
• Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
• Clean floors, to include sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, etc. (NOTE: Ensure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.)
• Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
• Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
• Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc., from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
• Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators.
• Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
• Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
• Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, mealtimes, and end of the workday.
• Perform isolation cleaning procedures in accordance with established infection control procedures.
• Discard infectious wastes into appropriate containers.
