Description

Job Title: Room Attendant

Work Shift: Varies with facility needs. Some positions are full-time, others part-time.

Breaks: Two breaks and one ½ hour lunch.

Overtime: Seldom required.

Machines Used: Household vacuum cleaner.

Tools Used: Mops, brooms, extendable wands, cleaning supplies.

Assistive Devices: Cleaning supply pushcart.

Safety Equipment: Employee uniforms.

Skills & Abilities: Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.

Workplace Description

The work takes place at various locations within the hotel, including guest rooms, bathrooms, lounges, lobbies, landings, elevators, stairways, kitchens, and locker rooms. Surfaces include cement, carpet, tile, and wood flooring. Most areas are well-lit and temperature-controlled. The Room Attendant may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions when cleaning exterior areas.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to clean areas where guests spend time, including making beds, replenishing supplies, dusting, polishing, washing windows and walls, vacuuming, scrubbing floors, and emptying waste baskets. Additional duties include moving furniture, hanging drapery, and rolling carpets as needed. Other tasks may be assigned by the supervisor.

Daily tasks include:

• Sorting, counting, and transporting linens.
• Cleaning rooms, bathrooms, and public areas.
• Floor cleaning and furniture dusting.
• Polishing metalwork and washing windows.
• Emptying trash and replacing light bulbs.

Qualifications

• Previous hotel housekeeping experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Physical ability to push/pull equipment, bend, twist, and stand for long periods.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and work independently.
