Job summary

James Madison University’s Facilities Management Department is seeking a Housekeeping Equipment Repair Technician to troubleshoot and repair cleaning equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and oversee vendor repairs. The role includes inventory management and staff training on new equipment.

The position requires knowledge of cleaning equipment, flexibility with schedules, a valid driver’s license, and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the function, operation, repair, and maintenance of various types of cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, etc.).
  • Ability to read product specifications and ADA requirements; familiarity with cleaning chemicals and safety.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for 24 consecutive months and acceptable MVR.
  • Flexibility to changing work environments and schedules; ability to work with others and independently.
  • Basic computer skills using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to use a Multi-meter.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair housekeeping equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on housekeeping equipment.
  • Repair, replace, or install bathroom dispensers per product and ADA specs.
  • Assist with oversight of repairs to housekeeping equipment by vendors.
  • Inspect, assemble, deliver, and train staff on new housekeeping equipment.
  • Assist with maintaining electronic inventory of equipment and parts.
  • Work during periods of authorized closings when required.

General Information:

James Madison University’s Facilities Management Department is accepting applications for a Housekeeping Equipment Repair Technician. The shift is Monday thru Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., with an altered schedule during the summer plus overtime or weekend hours when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot and complete repairs to housekeeping equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to housekeeping equipment.
  • Repair, replace, or install bathroom dispensers according to product and JMU specifications and ADA requirements.
  • Assist with oversight of repairs to housekeeping equipment completed by vendors.
  • Inspect, assemble, deliver, and train staff on new housekeeping equipment.
  • Assists with maintaining electronic inventory of equipment and parts.
  • The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.
Qualifications:

Required

  • Knowledge of the function, operation, repair, and maintenance of various types of cleaning equipment; such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, scrubbers, battery-operated floor scrubbers, riding scrubbers, and battery sweepers.
  • Knowledge of parts used for the repair of housekeeping equipment.
  • General knowledge of housekeeping chemicals and safety associated with them.
  • Ability to be flexible to changing work environments and schedules.
  • Ability to work well with others and independently
  • Basic computer skills using Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Ability to use a Multi-meter.
  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old, possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 24 consecutive months and an acceptable motor vehicle report.
