Job description

We are hiring a Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services to join our dynamic care team at Cape Heritage Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Sandwich!

This is a department head role overseeing the laundry & housekeeping services of our 120-bed skilled nursing facility. Salaried role with weekly pay. Located at 37 Route 6A.

The Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services plans, organizes, develops, and directs the operations of the department including staffing, budgets, and more.

Experience & Education:

• Must possess as a minimum a high school diploma.
• A minimum of one (1) year experience in a supervisory capacity.
• Training in the operation of laundry equipment, practices, and procedures is preferred.
• Must be knowledgeable in building cleaning and floor maintenance techniques.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Meet the laundry and housekeeping needs of the facility.
• Manage the department within labor and supply budget guidelines.
• Ensure the completion of the laundry process and the delivery of adequate levels of linen in a timely manner.
• Assure that all laundry machinery and equipment are in a safe and efficient working condition.
• Maintain chemicals under safe conditions at all times.
• Remove torn, worn, soiled linen or clothing from inventory.
• Mend and iron as necessary.
• Ensure residents’ rooms are neat, clean, and free from odor.
• Wet mop floors daily.
• Buff floors as requested.
• Shampoo and extract carpets as per schedule.
• Attend to spills immediately.
• Empty trash liners and clean containers.
• Clean bed and rails with disinfectant.
• Clean all countertops, windowsills, overbed and bedside tables, and furniture.
• Strip, seal, and refinish floors as per schedule.
• Clean windows and mirrors.

Specific Requirements:

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Oversee the quality and workmanship of all cleaning personnel and outside contractors.
• Must be knowledgeable of housekeeping and laundry practices and procedures as well as the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing housekeeping functions in the long-term care facility.
• Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
• Must have the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., of the department.
• Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., the appearance of the housekeeping areas, and must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
• Must ensure compliance with building safety and fire codes.
• Must complete necessary schedules, worksheets, logs, and records of work performed and planners.
• Serve on-call for emergencies and off-duty hours.
• Represent the department at pertinent facility meetings and in various capacities.
• Supervise department personnel including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, orientating, and evaluating.
