This role is a working supervisor who will oversee the day-to-day scheduling and activities of the Housekeeping and Laundry departments. The position reports to the Maintenance Director.
Life Care Center of Plainwell is conveniently located off US 131, just north of Kalamazoo and a short commute south of Grand Rapids.
Position Summary
The Housekeeping Director plans, organizes, and directs the overall operations of the Housekeeping department to ensure a clean, safe working environment in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.
Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years’ supervisory experience in a healthcare setting
- Training in environmental control practices and procedures
Specific Job Requirements
- Make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- Knowledgeable of practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing functions in a post-acute care facility
- Implement and interpret department programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
- Perform proficiently in all competency areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation
- Maintain professional relationships with all associates, vendors, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information
- Understand and follow company policies, including harassment and compliance procedures
- Display integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care’s Code of Conduct and completing mandatory compliance training
Essential Functions
- Plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the Housekeeping department
- Maintain the care of supplies and equipment, ensure facility appearance, and perform regular inspections of patient rooms for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of duties
- Ensure equipment is returned to proper locations in working condition and ready for use
- Inventory supplies and ensure adequate stock
- Identify additional cleaning needs and adjust schedules accordingly
- Make daily rounds to ensure staff are performing duties
- Inspect the facility regularly for cleanliness and safety
- Recruit, hire, evaluate, train, counsel, and supervise housekeeping staff
- Perform duties as a Housekeeping Assistant as needed
- Manage the department within budget constraints
- Cater events as requested
- Exhibit excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients
- Assist in patient evacuation when necessary
- Demonstrate dependable attendance and good judgment
- Communicate effectively and work productively within an interdisciplinary team
- Perform physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently during working hours
- Read, write, speak, and understand English
