Join one of the nation’s most comprehensive academic medical centers, UChicago Medicine, as a Housekeeping Assistant III PRN at our Hyde Park medical campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

In this role, the Housekeeping Assistant III PRN, under the direction of the Manager or his/her designee, performs duties related to custodial care and maintenance of facilities and equipment in designated areas of the hospital. Housekeeping Assistants work various shifts for 8 hours per day. There are typically 7-8 Housekeeping Assistants per floor during the day, with a smaller staff on the weekends. For in-patient rooms, they are responsible for cleaning 12 patient rooms per day, with an average of 48 minutes per room.

Essential Job Functions:

  • While moving between rooms or work areas, Housekeepers will simultaneously push or pull a cart with garbage containers (6lbs of p/p force with a 30” handle) and pull or push a cleaning cart (two types, one requiring 9lbs p/p force, 42” handle, and the other requiring 15lbs of p/p force with handle at 36”).
  • Cleans, Vacuums, & Dusts – perform 10 step general cleaning procedures.
  • Cleans High Touch Surfaces – areas to be wiped down include, but are not limited to doorknobs, light switches, electrical outlets, faucets, and sinks.
  • Restock Supplies – restock paper and plastic supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, etc.) and soap in restrooms.
  • Cleans Patient Care Items – clean patient items as requested including, but not limited to IV poles, IV pumps, and blood pressure cuffs.
  • Cleans Refrigerators – cleans inside and outside of refrigerators and ice machines.
  • Trash Disposal –
  • Trash is collected two times per shift in patient rooms and common areas.
  • Trash bags (<5lbs) are removed from garbage receptacles and placed into garbage containers on wheeled cart at 38” height.
  • The garbage cart has two containers with handles at 30” height and requires a 6lb push/pull force.
  • Linens are removed from a linen hamper in patient bathrooms at 31” height.
  • The linen bags weigh between 9lbs and 19lbs and are placed in a linen cart from 8” height to 47” height.
  • The linen cart has a handle at 36” and requires a 16lb push/pull force to transport.
  • The linen cart is transported (up to 100ft) to laundry chute at 23” to 48” height.
  • The linen bags (up to 19lbs) are taken from the cart (from 8” to 47”) and loaded into the chute.
  • Curtains & Blinds – Removes soiled cubicle curtains, blinds, etc. & hangs new ones.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent from an accredited body
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to lift 50lbs & bend to floor and reach above head to perform duties requiring continuous physical effort
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks without direct supervision

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
