Job description

North Cascades Institute (NCI) is seeking a Part Time Housekeeperfrom June 11 to September 21, 2025 to play a key role in maintainingthe cleanliness and sustainability of our facilities and grounds. As amember of the Operations Team, the Housekeeper will be based at theInstitute’s Environmental Learning Center (ELC) within North CascadesNational Park. This remote location is subject to unique environmentalconditions, including snow-covered roads, avalanches, wildfire smoke,wild animals, and occasional flooding. This is a seasonal, part-timeposition reporting to the Guest Services Coordinator.

Responsibilities

Cleaning

  • Perform routine cleaning of the Learning Center’s facilities,including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, sanitizing, organizing, and restocking.
  • Ensure that all rooms are cleaned and inspected according toestablished standards.
  • Maintain campus garbage and recycling containers.
  • Keep supply closets orderly, clean, and well-stocked.
  • Promptly report housekeeping issues to the supervisor andimmediately address hazards encountered during duties.
  • Comply with infection-control policies as trained.
  • Perform pest control removal as trained.
  • Clean staff housing as assigned.
  • Perform deep cleaning projects as assigned.
  • Properly use and maintain equipment as trained.
  • Collect, wash, dry, fold, and distribute laundry for participantlodges and other accommodations as assigned.
  • Maintain an orderly, clean, and functional laundry room.

General

  • Assist with routine groundskeeping (e.g., weed removal, thinningnative plants, snow removal from pathways, debris clearing fromtrails) as assigned by the Guest Services Coordinator.
  • Clean Institute vehicles as assigned.
  • Respond to reasonable requests and customer feedback with professionalism.
  • Participate in general staff duties such as staff meetings andtraining programs.
  • Use a computer to access email and inventory tools, employeetimecards, and the human resources portal.

Housing - Subsidized housing available. Private roomsin shared houses are often available. In some cases, roommates inshared rooms may be required.

This is a bargaining unit position represented by the InternationalAssociation of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District Lodge 751.All terms and conditions of employment are subject to change inaccordance with a collective bargaining agreement.

Experience and Skills:

Required Qualifications

  • General housekeeping experience, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of performance.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to model safe work habits and follow risk management practices.
  • Experience using cleaning chemicals and following MSDS standards.
  • Ability to accommodate a varied work schedule, including longerdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work with historically excluded populations.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Final offers of employment are contingent upon the successfulcompletion of a background check, which may include a review ofemployment history, national criminal background, sex offenderregistry search, and driving history check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous housekeeping experience in residential learning centers,camps, schools, or similar facilities.
  • Experience with recycling, composting, and waste management.

Compensation -This is a seasonal, part-time,non-exempt position with an estimated work schedule of 16-24 hours perweek. The pay rate is $19.00 per hour. The job location for thisposition is at theEnvironmentalLearning Center.

Benefitsinclude the following:

  • Sick leave: accrued at the rate of .04615 per hour
  • Vacation leave: accrued at the rate of .01925 per hour
  • Paid holidays: 3 days estimated between June 11 and September 21.Employees working less than full-time receive prorated holidays
  • Monthly health care stipend to be paid in the first pay periodfollowing completion of a 21-day probationary period. The healthcare stipend is prorated for part-time employees and is estimated tobe $50 per month for this position.
  • Employees working at least 20 hours per week have the option todefer compensation as a pre-tax deferral in our retirement plan
  • Ability to participate in Institute pro deals

Benefits are prorated for employees working less than 40 hours perweek. Employees are responsible for their own health insurance.
