Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking a Housekeeper for the 2nd shift to maintain cleanliness in University Student Commons (USC) and surrounding areas. The role includes routine cleaning, snow removal, and event support to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff. The position requires lifting up to 75 pounds, rotating weekend work, and completing a building cleaning training program.

Hours are 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Housekeeper (2nd Shift) performs as a member of the UniversityStudent Commons (USC) housekeeping staff, accomplishing regularshift cleaning and special projects as assigned. The Housekeeperensures each day that the University Student Commons (USC) andsurrounding outside areas are maintained in clean condition incompliance with USC Housekeeping Performance Standards and thehighest industry standards through individual work and contributingefforts as part of the overall housekeeping team.

The Housekeeper’s work constitutes a direct service of thedepartment to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment inwhich the University community can live, learn, and work. Theincumbent is expected to clean up to 28,000-35,000 square feet ofcleanable space per eight-hour workday, 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.during the school year, and 12:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. during schoolbreak times 40 hours per week. Rotating weekend work isrequired.

In addition to cleaning duties include, but are not limited to snowand ice removal, cleaning up associated with water or fire damage,and special event support. The Housekeeper represents thedepartment with the University community and its visitors.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
• Significant housekeeping experience. Knowledge of standardhousekeeping procedures and other housekeeping equipment.
• Ability to work within established guidelines (independentlyand as part of a team).
• Ability to read, hear and follow spoken/written directions,instructions and schedules, and fill out reports with writtendescriptions of work completion.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 75 pounds routine.
• Ability to kneel, stoop, bend over, climb, and walk forextended periods as required to perform work assignments.
• The individual is expected to behave in a professional manner,keep informed of departmental and University policies, regulations,and guidelines pertaining to employment obligations includingcomplying with attendance and clocking in and out on time.
• Work with other university facilities staff as part of a team,be flexible with schedule to accommodate emergency situations suchas staffing shortages and snow removal.
• Ability to work rotating weekend work is required.
• Will be required to complete a training program in buildingcleaning.
• Requires a basic knowledge of English including the ability toread, write, and speak English with understanding in order to readand understand product label instructions and university policiesand procedures. Must be able to relate custodial and maintenanceproblems clearly to supervisor and/or the Work ManagementCenter.

Preferred Qualifications

• A high school diploma or high school equivalency ispreferred.
• One year of custodial work experience is preferred.

Salary Range: 33,280
