Job summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a Housekeeper for 1st shift at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Danville, VA. The role entails maintaining clean and safe facilities for patients, staff, and visitors, including bathrooms, patient rooms, and public areas.

Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services. DBHDS is committed to a life of possibilities for all Virginians. This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health Facility, located in Danville, VA.

The candidate for this position will maintain acceptable sanitation standards daily in any given area to provide a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute. Duties will include a variety of housekeeping tasks to include: cleaning, vacuuming, floor buffing, dusting, emptying trash cans, sweeping, and supplying bathrooms.

This position requires: willing and able to work in a fast-paced, behavioral health environment cleaning bathrooms, patient rooms, nursing areas, and other spaces; a quick learner and able to follow directions; ability to take the initiative to complete tasks with minimum supervision after receiving training.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be able to read and follow written instructions.

Current CHEST certification or the ability to become CHEST certified within one year of employment is required.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, behavioral health environment cleaning bathrooms, patient rooms, nursing areas, and other spaces.

Ability to follow directions.

Initiative to complete tasks as assigned with minimum supervision after receiving training.

Additional Considerations

Experience as a housekeeper in a psychiatric healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.

Veterans and people with National Service.

CHEST certification or the ability to become CHEST certified within six months of employment.
