Job summary

Mercy Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services team member to perform essential housekeeping across the hospital on the 2nd shift (3:00pm start). Duties include disinfecting patient care areas, waste removal, cleaning, and assisting in maintaining infection control standards.

Responsibilities cover bed making, supply replenishment, safety reporting, and competency in EPIC transfers/discharges.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak, read, and write in fluent English.

• Proper guest relation skills.

Responsibilities

• Disinfects/sanitizes assigned work area using proper equipment.
• Removes waste, linen, recycling, some equipment, and sharps containers.
• Cleans assigned area(s) following the daily duty sheet.
• Vacuums assigned area(s), uses and maintains equipment properly and safely.
• Reports needed repairs or safety related items immediately to appropriate level of management.
• Reports any patient's belongings found to nursing immediately for prompt follow up.
• Replenishes patient supplies as needed or requested by the patient.
• Strips, sanitizes and makes all types of hospital beds.
• Demonstrates proper use of standard precautions and infection control policies.
• Demonstrates proper use of chemicals.
• Maintains a clean cart and cart closet.
• Empowered to always work in a safe manner around patients and coworkers.
• Cross trains in multiple areas and helps out in other areas as assigned.
• Operates hospital provided communication (Vocera) in a professional manner.
• Learns and understand EPIC software for transfers and discharges.
• Adapts to seeing and cleaning blood, body fluids and body waste.
• Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.

This position is 2nd shift with 3:00pm start time. Work Shift: Evening/Night. Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40.

Summary: This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing essential housekeeping functions throughout the hospital. Primary work will consist of disinfecting/sanitizing patient care areas and other areas of the hospital. Work is completed in a friendly, safe and sanitary way following infection control guidelines, universal precautions and directives from EVS Management Team.

Professional Experience: Prior housekeeping experience preferred.

Education: High School Diploma/GED preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None.

Physical Requirements Medium: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. to waist and shoulder height on occasional basis. Able to push and pull up to 25 lbs. of horizontal force on frequent basis.

Pay Rate Type: Hourly.
