The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for youth residing in the emergency shelter. This role supports the overall well-being of residents by ensuring living spaces, common areas, and facilities meet health, safety, and licensing standards. The Housekeeper plays an important role in supporting a trauma-informed, respectful, and supportive environment for youth in crisis.Key ResponsibilitiesCleaning & SanitationClean and sanitize bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, and common areas on a daily basisPerform routine deep cleaning tasks (floors, carpets, windows, walls, etc.)Ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety standardsMaintain cleanliness of kitchen and dining areas, including appliances and surfacesDispose of trash and biohazard materials in accordance with policies and regulationsWork with Directors at each site to set up thorough cleanings on a routine/as needed basis.Laundry ServicesWash, dry, and fold linens, towels, and shelter laundryEnsure adequate supply of clean bedding and hygiene materialsMonitor and report inventory needs for laundry suppliesSafety & ComplianceFollow all health, sanitation, and infection control proceduresIdentify and report maintenance, safety hazards, or repair needsEnsure compliance with local, state, and licensing regulationsSupportive Shelter EnvironmentInteract respectfully and professionally with youth and staffMaintain appropriate boundaries with residentsSupport a trauma-informed and culturally responsive environmentMaintain confidentiality of all resident informationInventory & SuppliesMonitor cleaning supply levels and notify supervisor when restocking is neededAssist with organization of storage areas and supply roomsQualificationsMinimum RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED (preferred)Valid driver’s license and willingness to commute between agency sites.Previous housekeeping or janitorial experience preferredAbility to pass background and child abuse registry checksAbility to lift up to 30–50 pounds and perform physical tasks (bending, standing, etc.)Preferred QualificationsExperience working in residential, healthcare, or social service settingsKnowledge of trauma-informed care principlesFamiliarity with infection control and sanitation standardsSkills & CompetenciesStrong attention to detailAbility to work independently and manage time effectivelyReliability and consistency in attendanceRespectful communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced, emotionally sensitive environmentWorking ConditionsMay require evening, weekend, or holiday shiftsExposure to cleaning chemicals and bodily fluids (with proper PPE)Physically active role requiring standing, walking, lifting, and repetitive tasksAdditional RequirementsMust complete all required training, including but not limited to:Mandated reporter trainingCPR/First Aid (if required by agency policy)
