Job summary

Clear Destination Inc. in Brooklyn's DUMBO area seeks a Housekeeper to maintain common areas of the 90 Sands residence, reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor. You will clean offices, multi-purpose rooms, lobby, roof deck, garden, sidewalks, and client areas as needed.

This onsite role supports social services coordination and building operations, requiring attention to safety and NYC housing standards.

Qualifications

• Comparable work experience required.
• Experience operating vacuum cleaners and buffers.
• Ability to lift and move heavy furniture/appliances.
• Stand for several hours; stairs may be required in emergencies.
• Experience with special needs populations is a plus.
• Basic computer knowledge is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum common areas.
• Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces.
• Maintain sidewalks (sweeping, leaves, snow).
• Clean units when vacated or per work orders.
• Sort and package recyclables according to NYC regulations.
• Operate a trash compactor.
• Set up/clean for meetings and events.
• Assist painters and engineers when assigned.
• Perform duties at other facilities as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job description

Located in DUMBO, Brooklyn, 90 Sands offers 491 units of permanent, supportive housing to low-income New Yorkers, people living with HIV/AIDS, and chronically homeless individuals, including individuals with mental illness. Built on the former site of the Watchtower Society, the 30-story building features a multipurpose room for community events and meetings, a digital library/computer lab, and a fitness room. The Center for Urban Community Services provides comprehensive onsite social services, and Breaking Ground coordinates property management services.

Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Housekeeper is a part of the department that maintains the common areas of the safe haven. Examples of common areas include offices, multi-purpose rooms, roof deck, garden, trash collection area, lobby, fitness room and sidewalks. Client areas will also be cleaned.

This position has a 35-hour work week, onsite.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

• Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum
• Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces
• Maintain sidewalks, including sweeping, raking leaves, and shoveling snow
• Clean individual units when vacated or requested by work order
• Sort and package recyclables to comply with NYC regulations
• Operate compactor
• Set up and clean up for meetings and other events
• Assist painters and engineers when assigned
• Perform work at other facilities as required
• Perform other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Comparable work experience
• Experience operating of vacuum cleaner, high speed buffer
• Ability to lift and move furniture, appliances, etc.
• High School Diploma, GED, Trade School Diploma, or equivalent
• Ability to stand for several hours during shift and to climb stairs in the event of an emergency
• Experience working with special needs populations a plus
• Basic knowledge of using a computer is preferred
