Job summary

Sodexo is seeking a Housekeeper to join our team at Colchester Hospital. You will help create a safe, clean and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors, contributing to overall health and wellbeing within the hospital.

Key duties include maintaining high cleaning standards, supporting meal services, and following infection prevention practices. A flexible attitude and teamwork are essential to ensure smooth daily operations in a busy healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Previous housekeeping, domestic, cleaning, or healthcare experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high standards of cleaning and housekeeping across wards, clinical areas, offices, and communal spaces.
• Support patient meal and beverage services in line with Food Hygiene Regulations and healthcare standards.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including PPE and cleaning equipment.
• Report maintenance issues and health and safety concerns promptly.

What you’ll do:

• Deliver high standards of cleaning and housekeeping across wards, clinical areas, offices, meeting rooms, and communal spaces.
• Support patient meal and beverage services in line with Food Hygiene Regulations and healthcare standards.
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and hygienic environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures, including the correct use of PPE and cleaning equipment.
• Replenish essential supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet rolls throughout the hospital.
• Collect and manage waste safely in accordance with healthcare waste management procedures.
• Assist with stock control and ensure cleaning cupboards remain organised and fully stocked.
• Report maintenance issues, faults, and health and safety concerns promptly.
• Demonstrate compassion and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues.
• Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the hospital environment through teamwork, flexibility, and excellent service delivery.

What You'll Bring

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

• Physical capability to undertake the duties of the role, including manual handling activities.
• Previous housekeeping, domestic, cleaning, or healthcare experience would be advantageous.
• NHS or healthcare sector experience is desirable but not essential
