Job summary

Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital is seeking Environmental Services staff for the night shift to clean patient rooms, corridors, and common areas, ensuring high standards of hygiene and safety. Responsibilities include bed-making, waste handling, curtain hanging, and equipment sanitation, with adherence to 8-step cleaning procedures.

Qualifications

• Must understand and converse in English at a level which allows safe, efficient performance of the job.
• Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards.
• Requires manual dexterity and ability to stand for long periods.
• Performs all Environmental Services related tasks and follows department guidelines related to the work.
• Performs basic and heavier cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and methods.
• Performs all environmental services tasks with a service orientation to staff and patients.
• Cleans patient equipment as requested by supervisor, including beds and room furnishings.
• Assists in manpower support for moves, conference room set-ups and other duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Follow 8-step cleaning procedures and maintain professional, safe work practices.
• Use caution signs and cones to ensure safety.
• Complete unfinished tasks from previous shifts and report maintenance issues.
• Clean up organic body waste (blood, body fluids, feces, etc.) as instructed.
• Hang cubicle curtains, shower curtains, and window coverings.
• Sanitize patient equipment such as I.V. poles and pumps after discharge.
• Learn and demonstrate new healthcare cleaning procedures as needed.

9 PM - 7:30 AM (Saturday & Sunday nights with rotating holidays)

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

• Assists in manpower support for office and/or related moves, special conference room set‑ups and any other occasions as required.
• Competent in using the proper chemicals for the proper tasks.
• Ability to perform cleaning of emergency spills when observed and/or on request.
• In case of community disaster, assist nursing in making up extra beds and other duties as assigned.
