Job summary

Mercy Cedar Rapids is seeking an Environmental Services/Housekeeping staff member to disinfect and sanitize patient care areas in a hospital setting. You will follow infection control guidelines, manage waste, bedding, and supplies, and support patient safety on a 40-hour, 2nd shift schedule starting at 3:00pm.

You’ll work with EPIC for transfers and discharges and collaborate with nursing staff to maintain a clean, safe environment while adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Must be able to speak, read and write in fluent English.
• Basic math skills are required for basic calculations.
• Proficient computer literacy and ability to use basic software.
• Maintain neat appearance and professional image.
• Good guest relations and customer service attitude.

Responsibilities

• Disinfects/sanitizes assigned work area using proper equipment.
• Removes waste, linen, recycling, some equipment, and sharps containers.
• Cleans assigned area following the daily duty sheet.
• Vacuums assigned area(s) and operates equipment properly and safely.
• Reports repairs or safety items to management.
• Reports patient belongings found to nursing for follow-up.
• Replenishes patient supplies as needed.
• Strips and makes hospital beds.
• Demonstrates proper use of infection control policies and standard precautions.
• Handles chemicals safely and maintains cart/closet cleanliness.
• Cross trains and assists in other areas as needed.
• Operates Vocera communication professionally.
• Learns and uses EPIC software for transfers and discharges.
• Adapt to cleaning blood, body fluids and body waste.
• Follows Mercy safety guidelines and reports unsafe conditions.

Primary work will consist of disinfecting/sanitizing patient care areas and other areas of the hospital. Work is completed in a friendly, safe and sanitary way following infection control guidelines, universal precautions and directives from EVS Management Team.

• Reports needed repairs or safety related items immediately to appropriate level of management.
• Reports any patient’s belongings found to nursing immediately for prompt follow up.
• Replenishes patient supplies as needed or requested by the patient.
• Strips, sanitizes andmakes all types of hospital beds.
• Demonstrates proper use of standard precautions and infection control policies.
• Demonstrates proper use of chemicals.
• Maintains a clean cart and cart closet.
• Empowered to always work in a safe manner around patients and coworkers.
• Cross trainsin multiple areas and helps out in other areas as assigned.
• Operates hospital provided communication (Vocera) in a professional manner.
• Learns and understand EPIC software for transfers and discharges.
• Adapts to seeing and cleaning blood, body fluids and body waste.
• Follows Mercy’s safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
