Overview

Household Survey Consultant for Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) Support — Data & Analytics Section, Data Collection Unit, DAPM, NYHQ, remote. Contract type: Consultant. Duty Station: New York. Location: United States. Duration: 30 November 2025 – 31 December 2026. Home/Office Based: Remote.

Responsibilities
  • Support the design and implementation of MICS surveys, including finalising and updating the full content of MICS7 survey tools, planning, sample design, questionnaire customization, pre-tests, tabulation plans, fieldworker training, fieldwork monitoring, data analysis and report drafting, and dissemination.
  • Provide technical support to ongoing MICS7 surveys (planning, sample design, questionnaire customization, pre-test, tabulation, training, monitoring, analysis, dissemination) and assist with regional/global MICS Survey Design, Data Processing and Data Interpretation workshops.
  • Oversee and contribute to GIS data acquisition, anonymization, and dissemination of surveys.
  • Contribute to the organization and implementation of MICS Survey Design, Data Processing, and Data Interpretation and Further Analysis workshops (in-person participation where needed).
  • Support updates to the MICS7 questionnaire structure/content and finalize survey analysis and dissemination tools.
  • Support MICS implementation worldwide with a focus on ECA, MENA, and English-speaking countries in ESA and WCA regions.
Deliverables / Work Plan
  • Documentation on survey design, implementation and support to MICS (finalised Survey Plan and Budget, Sampling Plan, Questionnaires, Training agenda and materials, Tabulation Plan, draft Survey Final Report and Snapshots) for four surveys in ECA, MENA, WCA — due 30 April 2026.
  • Documentation on completed MICS GIS work (survey boundary shapefiles, GPS datasets, accompanying information) for four surveys — due 30 April 2026.
  • Documentation on MICS workshop preparations and implementation (as Facilitator in one region country) — due 30 April 2026.
  • Finalised survey analysis and dissemination tools for MICS7 updates — due 30 April 2026.
  • Documentation on survey design, implementation and support for additional surveys (four surveys in ECA, MENA, WCA) — due 31 August 2026.
  • Documentation on GIS work for additional surveys — due 31 August 2026.
  • Documentation on additional MICS workshop preparations and implementation (Facilitator in one region country) — due 31 August 2026.
  • Updated questionnaire architecture and content for MICS7 — due 31 August 2026.
  • Contribution to 1 Global MICS Consultation Meeting (location TBC) — due 31 August 2026.
  • Documentation on MICS7 progress and related meetings (Florence, Italy) — due 31 August 2026.
  • Support the design and implementation of MICS surveys in four surveys (ongoing or new) with finalised Survey Plan, Budget, and related materials and GIS data dissemination, due by 31 December 2026.
Qualifications
  • Education: Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Demography, Statistics, Epidemiology, or related field with significant measurement or analysis components.
  • Experience: At least 10 years of working experience in the implementation and management of global household survey programmes; experience in standard tool development for household surveys; experience in tool development for global programmes.
  • Skills: Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint; SPSS; knowledge of R, Python, and GitHub is an asset.
  • Languages: Native or near-native English (oral and written); knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and interpersonal skills with ability to manage multiple tasks.
Requirements
