Position Summary

The primary interest of Dr. Rotstein's group is the understanding of the mechanisms of generation of neuronal rhythmic oscillations in various areas of the brain (e.g., hippocampus, entorhinal cortex, prefrontal cortex, striatum, olfactory bulb) and how this results from the cooperative activity of the dynamic and biophysical properties of the participating neurons, the synaptic connectivity and the network topology. A primary focus of this research is the effects of single cell and network resonances (emergent properties resulting from the interaction between neurons/networks and oscillatory inputs) on the generation of network oscillations. They use and develop mathematical models, dynamical systems tools and numerical simulations.

Essential Functions
  • Develop, implement and analyze bayesian / simulation-based inference algorithms and neural networks algorithms to estimate parameters in mixed-mode bursting-spiking neuronal patterns and monosynaptic connectivity in neuronal networks.
Prerequisite Qualifications
  • Knowledge of machine learning and computational neuroscience.
  • At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Salary Information

In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $20.00(USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.
