Hourly Realtime Captioner (Hourly Interpreter/Realtime Captioner/Computer-Aided Transcriber) - DPRC

This position involves providing communication access real-time translating services (CART) to Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individuals, using court reporting methods, real-time technology, and software to produce verbatim text of spoken English in various settings.

Responsibilities include:
  • Providing immediate verbatim translation in academic and public settings.
  • Setting up and troubleshooting captioning equipment.
  • Researching technical terminology and customizing dictionaries.
  • Collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to ensure access.
Minimum qualifications:
  • Thorough knowledge of court reporting methods, real-time software, and industry ethics.
  • Ability to caption at least 180 words per minute accurately.
  • Formal training in court reporting; experience preferred.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Captioning at 220+ words per minute.
  • Two or more years of post-secondary captioning experience.
  • Experience with live-stream captioning software and team captioning.
Other details:
  • Position is hourly, part-time, with a salary range of $70-$97.17/hour.
  • Must comply with confidentiality, ethics, and safety standards.
  • Background check required.
