Job summary

Howmet Aerospace Inc. in La Porte, Indiana, seeks a full-time Post Cast Operator. You will work in a team, read work instructions, perform lifting and stand for long periods, and operate and verify castings in the post cast area while handling autoclave, etch, and inspection processes.

The role requires passing WORKKEYS tests and legal authorization to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available. Training and safety are emphasized in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency is required.
  • WORKKEYS tests are REQUIRED; pass All tests at Level 4 or higher.
  • Authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship.
  • Export-controlled items access may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Knockout, Low Temp / Autoclave, Cutoff/Grinding/CNC/Waterblast/Revert Processing.
  • Sandblast/Expediting/Vibratory, Acid Etch, Primary Inspection.
  • Proficiently perform a minimum of 3 listed post-cast tasks.

Job description

Responsibilities

Work as a team member, under general supervision to remove, clean, cut and verify castings in the post cast area.

Essential Functions
  • Read and interpret PWI (work instructions).
  • Lifting (max. 35#).
  • Long periods of standing.
  • Push/Pull/Twisting.
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software applications.
  • Vision Standards.
Job Responsibilities:

A fulltime Post Cast Operator will be able to proficiently perform a minimum of 3 of the following:

  • Knockout.
  • Low Temp / Autoclave.
  • Cutoff/ Grinding / CNC / Waterblast / Revert Processing.
  • Sandblast/ Expediting/ Vibratory.
  • Acid Etch.
  • Primary Inspection.
Basic Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency is required.
  • WORKKEYS Tests are REQUIRED to be considered for this position. Testing will be conducted at the La Porte WorkOne office. Required Testing: Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, Workplace Documents. Candidates MUST pass with a Level 4 or higher on ALL tests.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Able to demonstrate 2 years of full-time continuous work experience with the same employer OR 6 months of manufacturing experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Lifting, reading, forklift driving.
  • Understanding of Computers (basic hardware and software).
  • Use of hand tools.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

  • Capable of doing multiple tasks.

  • Remove excess gating.
  • Calibrated measurements of chemicals.
  • Ability to become a certified operator (ie: autoclave, etch, alloy verification).
  • Experience in chemical and manufacturing equipment usage preferred.

Employee is required to execute the following:

  • Occasional bending, reaching, pushing and pulling when retrieving and moving various items.
  • Lifting approximately 50% of the time. Typically, assistance would be provided for weights exceeding 35 pounds.
  • Good manual dexterity Position may require more than eight hours daily and more than five days weekly to complete work assignments.
  • Squatting / crouching when retrieving stored items from lower shelves and file cabinets, making equipment / product inspections, etc.
  • Standing 80% of the time.
  • Visual requirements for this position are close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Chemical related jobs require wearing a chemical suit 90% of the shift; this also includes possibly wearing hard hat, gloves, sleeves and a long coat.
  • Clean work areas and maintain a clean work environment; perform 5S cleaning activities as required.
