Job summary

Fort Smith Public Schools seeks an Hourly Homebound Special Education Teacher to provide instructional support for students who are homebound. The role operates on an hourly basis with 4 hours per week, coordinating with classroom teachers and the Homebound/Hospital Program staff to deliver targeted lessons.

The teacher will work with parents and students at agreed locations and times, implementing strategies aligned to IEP goals and assisting in the transition back to the classroom.

Qualifications

• Must be able to collaborate with classroom teachers and Homebound staff to adapt instructional materials.
• Effective communication with parents, students, and school staff is essential.
• Knowledge of IEP guidelines and special education procedures.

Responsibilities

• Confer with the classroom teacher regularly to coordinate programs and materials.
• Maintain communication with campus teachers, parents, students, and Homebound staff.
• Teach mastery of content with the goal of returning the student to school.
• Meet and instruct assigned students at the designated location and time.
• Implement instructional strategies and materials as directed by the director.
• Modify curricula as needed for students per IEP guidelines.
• Participate in staff development to improve skills.

POSITION TITLE: Hourly Homebound Special Education Teacher

FLSA: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly, 4 per week (e.g. 1 hour 4 days a week or 2 hours 2 days a week).May meet at a neutral location, i.e. public library, or virtually...to be agreed upon by teacher, parents and student.

LOCATIONS: To be determined

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be an Arkansas Certified teacher.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Confer with the classroom teacher on a regular basis in coordinating the instructional programs, assignments and materials utilized and/or needed by each student.
• Establish and maintain communication with campus teachers, parents, students and Homebound/Hospital Program staff
• Teach mastery of skills in content area with the goal of returning the student to school.
• Meet and instruct assigned students in the location and at the time designated
• Implement appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment as assigned by the director.
• Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
• Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Must have the ability to lift at least 40 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling,occasional reaching above the head or the shoulders, bending, squatting, and kneeling.

Hourly Rate $25.00 per hour
