Primary Purpose

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Essential Responsibilities

1. High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, begin cleaning in a counter-clockwise direction around the room - high dust surfaces above shoulder height, such as lights, vents, and ledges. Gently brush in a downward direction into the service cart.
2. Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, sanitize surfaces below shoulder height, such as ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, and trashcans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, spot clean windows.
3. Bathroom Cleaning: Wipe down surfaces above and below the sink, clean the toilet seat and outside of the toilet bowl with germicidal solution, clean inside the toilet with a Johnnie Mop, and check soap and paper dispensers, refilling as needed.
4. Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners if liquid is inside, wipe the trash can, and replace with a clean liner.
5. Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Use a treated dust mop or vacuum starting from the back of the room, ensuring to clean under furniture and in restrooms.
6. Grounds Care: Outside areas should be checked and cleaned multiple times daily, including trash removal, sidewalk and curb cleaning, and maintaining cleanliness of outdoor furniture and fixtures.
7. Public Common Areas: Dust mop and spot mop hallways, clean glass, and maintain planters and corners for cobwebs and dirt.
8. Food Court: Clean and sanitize tables, remove trash, wash trays, and police outdoor eating areas.
9. Floor Sanitizing: Sanitize floors with germicidal solution, starting from the back of the room and working outwards.
10. Inspection: Review cleaning steps and check furniture placement, ensuring high dusting and cleaning are done daily.
11. Customer Relations and Service: Be courteous, answer questions, report issues, work quietly, maintain personal appearance, and report unfinished work to supervisors.
12. Perform other duties as assigned, including floor care and carpet cleaning.

Qualifications

Knowledge of basic janitorial operations, methods, materials, equipment, and safe work practices. Ability to understand and follow instructions, operate equipment, interpret chemical labels, and maintain physical condition for the duties, including lifting, bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
