Job Description

The Flex Staff Hourly employee is a variable position, ranging from entry-level clerical support to professional (non-licensed), engaged by a department on an as-needed basis, and compensated hourly. These employees may include those who retired or left full-time roles and are brought back on a part-time, temporary basis to support or orient new staff.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all OR surgeries and procedures.
  • Monitor front office workflow and make adjustments to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Verify patient demographics and obtain pre-certification from insurance carriers for surgeries and procedures.
  • Obtain patient medical clearance.
  • Resolve patient issues and answer policy or procedure questions.
  • Place surgical confirmation calls one day prior to scheduled surgeries or procedures.
  • Schedule post-operative follow-up visits with providers.
  • Act as liaison between referring physicians and surgeons for clinical data and scheduling communication.
  • Train and mentor other Surgical Scheduling Coordinators or less experienced staff.
  • Distribute and collect paperwork to coordinate surgeries.
  • Record hospital reservations and pre-admit data in CERNER system.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of scheduling experience, including 2 years in a clinical setting, preferably in a medical practice environment.
  • Preferred certifications in Medical Technology, ICD-9, and CPT coding.

Compensation

The hourly rate ranges from $16.50 to $50, depending on experience and qualifications. This does not include bonuses or additional benefits.
